Review: Cyleina’s Black Pearl and Tomato Soap

I was bothered by the increasing number of pimple marks on my face last month so I researched for some tips on how to lighten pimple marks, one of which is Cyleina’s Black Pearl and Tomato SoapI am scared that chemical peeling and do-it-yourself peeling products may cause more harm than good so I chose to lighten my pimple marks the organic way.

I am one of those people who can’t resist squeezing pimples, especially when they are swollen and look like they are ready to pop (I can hear my mom, sister and you shouting and telling me to stop squeezing…hehehe…). And because of my habitual scanning for pimples to pinch I got pimple marks on my face.

The Black Pearl according to Cyleina:
Cyleina Black Pearl lightens dark spots caused by sun exposure and pimple scars
. It is effective in lightening dark underarms and inner thighs caused by imbalanced hormones, chemical burns from deodorants
and delays wrinkle formation with its collagen content.

Ingredients:
Glycerine, Distilled Water, Myristic acid, Marine Collagen Peptide, Licorice, Alpha Arbutin, Vitamin E acetate, Peppermint essential oil

I've been using the Black Pearl for more than two weeks now. I use it to wash my face two to three times a day. It has a fruity (I think it’s strawberry) and minty scent. It leaves my face a cool feeling (like a menthol shampoo) after washing.

I noticed that my face was smoother and less oily than before. It also dried my pimples a bit. However, there are times that my skin feels too dry so I make sure that I apply moisturizer after washing my face. As for the whitening effect, I cannot say much as of this moment since I haven’t noticed any lightening of my pimple scars. I’ll post an update on this after a month or two of using the Black Pearl. (Update: This doesn't work for me, no lightening of my pimple scars even after I finished the whole soap.)

The Tomato Soap according to Cyleina:
Made from red and ripe organically grown tomatoes, Cyleina Organic Tomato Soap counters oily skin by absorbing surplus oil. The tonic benefits of tomato deeply cleanses and tightens the pores. Alpha-Hydroxy Acids found in tomato helps get rid of pimples and acne through its gentle exfoliating action and this also results to getting your cheeks a rosy hue and your body a fair glow!

Ingredients:
Saponified Organic Vegetable oil,Jojoba Oil, sweet almond oil, organic tomato extracts

The Tomato Soap was not suitable for me. I used it alternately with Black Pearl for two days and got some breakouts. I might try it again, but for now, it will end up as body soap for the family, hehehe.

Tips:
  • Organic soaps dissolve faster than other soaps. To prolong its life, cut the soap to several pieces and use a soap dish.
  • I bought Cyleina’s Black Pearl (100gm for P125) and Tomato Soap (120gm for P65) from my trusted online seller in Multiply. Cyleina Organic Soaps are also available in Hortaleza.

  2. hi jean, thanks for the info. Try ko next time yang rice bran. What I use to dry my (new) pimples is All Organics' Skin Aide; it's super effective for me and my sister! =)

  3. Sad to say, Cyleina soaps are not for me. Maybe for some but for me, they aren’t. Within a month’s time, I’ve tried 4 variants: Rice Bran, Black Pearl, Grape seed & Shea Butter.

I tried rice bran first & used it on my face & body. After a few days, it helped dried out the pimple in my forehead as well as some blackheads. So I thought, wow this must be great! So on my next visit to Watson, I bought black pearl hoping this must be the best Cyleina soap because of the raving reviews I read on the internet. Then in my excitement, I posted the ‘oh so good’ comment on this wall. But after a day or two using black pearl.. Oh my, my skin felt tight & dry. I continued using it to confirm this observation but after another day or two, I noticed dry, irritated skin under my ears as well as dry, itchy & really tight skin at the back of my underarms and insides of my thighs. Mahapdi sya. It felt like, if I bump myself bad, I might tear my skin. I must say, black pearl is too harsh for my skin. So I stopped using it. Sayang malaki pa, ang mahal pa nman. Honestly, I don’t have a sensitive skin. Yet, this is the first time I got this kind of reaction from a soap.

So to give Cyleina a fair chance, I still bought the moisturizing variants – Grape seed & Shea butter hoping they could counteract the drying effect of black pearl. But alas, after using them both, I believe they’re not moisturizing either but drying and harsh on my skin. Sorry Cyleina, I don’t mean to malign your soaps unfairly but as a consumer, I believe I have the right to inform you as well as the other consumers who might be expecting too much from these soaps; believing everything & anything they read on the internet. But frankly, I must admit, I’ll still use the Rice bran once in while. But the other soaps, I don’t think so. They're just waste of money. I guess expecting too much from these soaps led me to become really this frustrated. :(

  4. I'm an avid user, already cleared about 4-5 boxes of the big Tomato soap versions! And it is sooo good for me.

I've been using Dove soaps and papaya soaps if I wanted to exfoliate my dull skin but only the Cyleina tomato gets rid of the dead skin cells I have :)

  5. base on my experience, pinagsabay ko po yung cyleina black pearl and cyleina tomato soap. ang nagyari is parang nangitim ung skin ko, pati underarms ko, parang nasunog. so nagtext ako sa number ng cyleina na nakapost sa site nila then sabi nila baka daw hindi hiyang sa akin. they suggest na itry ko daw yung RICE BRAND. ngayon, stop ko muna yung tomato then black pearl muna gamit ko. so far,nag light na yung skin ko then nag light na din yung underarms ko. thank god! pero ita-try ko pa din yung rice bran. in fairness naman sa cyleina tomato, maganda sya sa body skin, smooth and silky sya. hindi lang siguro hiyang sa face ko. :))
